Edward Mountain MSP launches campaign for a new prison in Inverness

The Highlands needs a modern prison as HMP Inverness is no longer fit for purpose.

Prison overcrowding has been a problem for too long and there are concerns about the safety of prison staff.

A site for the new prison has been purchased at vast expense and the planning permission has been granted.

The project is ready to go, all it requires is funding from the Scottish Government.

As such, I am calling for a new prison to be built as a matter of priority.
