Edward Mountain, MSP for Highlands and Islands, states the A9 roadworks are “strangling the Highlands”

Edward questioned the Government today on the on-going roadworks for the A9, he criticised the on-going delays that are expected to continue for the next 18 weeks.

There will be a brief break in the roadworks this weekend to allow SGN to redesign their work program.

Edward highlighted how the roadworks, which are creating an on average a two and half hour delay, will have a detrimental impact on the Highland community.

Edward pointed out the Government that the A9 is a vital road for not just the Highlands, but for all of Scotland.

He stated that the long delays are detrimental as they will have inevitable negative economic impact on the local businesses in the Highlands, and across Scotland.

Although the Government assured that they had attempted to relieve the pressures of the roadworks, Edward calls for the Government to do more to mitigate the effects on local economies.

Edward Mountain MSP Commented:

“Whilst SGN have the right to do this, they don’t have the right to have such an impact on the Highlands.”
