Edward Mountain MSP launches petition for a brand new Highland Hospital

Highlands and Islands MSP, Edward Mountain today launched a petition, which calls on the Scottish Government and NHS Highland to build a brand new acute general teaching hospital for the Highlands to replace Raigmore” and can be signed online by following this link.

The MSP said the region requires a new acute general teaching hospital which can cater to increasing healthcare demands and which can more effectively answer the specialist healthcare needs of Highlanders.

Since launching the ‘Replace Raigmore’ campaign last month, Edward Mountain MSP has already received favourable responses from the Scottish Government.

While the First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Health stopped short of making a full commitment, both have recognised the need for Raigmore to have a full refurbishment or replacement in the coming years.

Edward Mountain MSP is encouraging everyone to sign the petition to build pressure on both the Scottish Government and NHS Highland to begin developing plans for a modern replacement for Raigmore Hospital.

Edward Mountain MSP said:

“We need to get the ball rolling now to deliver a brand new hospital for the Highlands, which is why I am launching my petition today.

“Showing your support and signing the petition is crucial for ensuring a modern replacement for Raigmore doesn’t slip from the Scottish Government and NHS Highland’s list of top priorities.

“I welcome that the First Minister already recognises the need to replace or fully refurbish Raigmore, but we now need a stronger commitment.

“Raigmore is only going to age further and a large-scale replacement project could take years to deliver. However, we could save years of time if we begin developing plans and consulting with communities for a replacement right now.

“I’m confident that we if build enough public pressure through this petition, then calls to replace Raigmore will be impossible to ignore.

“I would encourage everyone to sign the petition and then share it with their family, friends and neighbours too. Together we can build the momentum for a brand new Hospital for the Highlands.

“If you are unable to sign the petition online then please feel free to visit my Regional Office in Inverness , where my staff will be happy to help people sign the petition in person. ”
