Edward Mountain's “Local Hero” Fiona Cruickshanks meets the Queen at 25th Anniversary of the Scottish Parliament
A local MSP has highlighted the importance of the unsung heroes of the NHS by inviting an NHS Highland nurse to be his Local Hero at Parliament on Saturday 28th September.
Their Majesties the King and Queen attended the 25th Anniversary of the Scottish Parliament, and Edward Mountain’s “Local Hero” Fiona Cruickshanks was lucky enough to meet the Queen in person.
The event marked 25 years since the Scottish Parliament was reconvened, and included special performances from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Sistema Scotland, Còisir Alba and Calum McIlroy, showcasing Scottish music and culture.
Fiona Cruickshanks won Nurse of the Year in 2023 and has dedicated more than 30 years of her life to caring for patients.
Scottish Conservative Highlands and Islands MSP Edward Mountain said:
“I was pleased to invite Fiona to this special event at Parliament, in recognition of her lifelong dedication to the care of others.
“It is only fitting that the extraordinary people of Scotland are at the heart of these historic events.
“I hope that Fiona had a wonderful day and am so glad she met Queen Camilla.
“I am sure my fellow MSPs will join me in thanking all of the Local Heroes who attended the event on Saturday for their much-valued contributions to communities across Scotland.”
